Follow the steps below to ensure you get the most out of your financial aid.
Step 1: Complete the FAFSA
Complete the correct Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online. UNLV’s school code to complete your FAFSA is 002569. Complete and sign your FAFSA with your PIN as soon as possible after January 1st of each year. UNLV’s priority financial aid consideration deadline is February 1st of each year. You may still apply for financial aid after February 1st, however, there may be limited funding from other aid programs.
If your financial aid funds exceed your semester tuition and fee costs, you will receive a financial aid refund for the difference to help pay your other educational costs. You are highly encouraged to enroll in the free direct deposit program so the UNLV Cashiering and Student Accounts Office can post funds directly to your bank account. You may sign up via MyUNLV. Click on Finances, then Enroll in Direct Deposit.
The majority of scholarships at UNLV are awarded to students based upon automatic consideration. There are some donor scholarships which require a separate application and are awarded through various UNLV Departments. Click here for more information.
Fall 2011, Spring 2012 & Summer 2012 Applicants: Financial aid award notices for students can be found by logging into the MyUNLV web application. A UNLV financial aid e-mail is sent to a student’s UNLV issued Google E-mail account indicating the financial aid award offer can be seen online via MyUNLV. There may be other necessary steps a student will need to complete before financial aid can be disbursed and help pay educational costs. Be sure to read all the messages and instructions within your financial aid MyUNLV account to minimize financial aid disbursement delays.
Fall 2012, Spring 2013 & Summer 2013 Applicants: Students who complete the 2012-2013 FAFSA after January 1, 2012 will not be notified of their financial aid award using the UNLV issued Google E-mail account until April 1, 2012. There are software and programming changes each year within financial aid based upon mandatory U.S. Department of Education updates.
How to Apply for Summer Financial Aid:
Students seeking financial aid during the summer semester to help pay educational costs will be required to complete a separate summer financial aid application. Please click here for more information.
